Leaning into the afternoons

Edmund White said good fiction should be a combination of confession, journalism and fairy tale; I believe the same is true for a good figure painting. Although the model in these works is someone I have been painting for 20 years, she moves through them in various avatars,  becoming at once herself and someone else, as if drifting through scenes from unmade films.
